PERSONAL STYLE · A PRACTICAL EXERCISE

Why your favorite outfits work—for you.

Your favorite outfits contain useful clues. Instead of asking whether you have dressed “correctly,” start with a more personal question: what makes this feel good to wear?

Choose three real favorites.

Use outfits you have actually worn and enjoyed. Photos can help, but a short written description is enough. Include everyday clothes; an outfit does not need a special occasion to be worth understanding.

Describe the experience, not just the appearance.

What feels comfortable? Can you move and sit the way you need to? Are you adjusting anything all day? Which details do you like seeing in the mirror? These questions let your own experience guide the next decision.

Look for a pattern worth testing.

Perhaps you repeat a neckline, a color pairing, a certain amount of structure, or a relaxed layer. Treat that observation as a hypothesis. Try a similar detail in another outfit and notice whether you like it there, too.

Be curious about the pieces you rarely reach for.

Not wearing something often does not tell the whole story. It might be out of season, waiting for an occasion, uncomfortable, or difficult to combine. Ask why before deciding to alter it, archive it, sell it, or give it away. An app should not make that decision for you.

A note to keep: “I like this outfit because…” Finish the sentence in your own words. You are building a vocabulary for your taste, not a list of rules about your body.

See the pieces together.

Open a sample look, change a piece, and try the combination.
